About Me
Hi! My name is Tommy, and I’m a junior studying Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. I’m passionate about mechanical design, robotics, and electromechanical systems, and I’m driven to use engineering to create solutions that make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
I grew up in Maryland and attended the German International School in Washington, DC. Speaking Spanish at home and German at school immersed me in a mix of cultures and perspectives. That experience shaped how I collaborate, communicate, and approach problem-solving on engineering teams.
Last Summer, I worked as an R&D Mechanical Engineering Intern at Thorlabs Imaging Systems. At Thorlabs, I led the ideation, design, and prototyping of a new line of adapter plates for advanced laser technologies. Furthermore, I developed the first complete SolidWorks assembly of the Bergamo III Multiphoton Microscope, fully synchronized with the company's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, enabling the assembly to automatically reflect real-time changes to the microscope's modules.
At Hopkins, I serve as the External Vice President and lead arm designer for the Hopkinauts Mars Rover Team, which works to build an autonomous rover to compete in the university rover challenge (URC). In the team, I help foster corporate and community connections while also developing a 6-Degree-of-Freedom mechanical arm. Previously, I served as the team's mechanical lead, managing the teams 3 main mechanical projects: chassis, arm, and life detection.
In my free time, I love spending time with my dogs, Teddy and Lemon. I also enjoy playing soccer, drawing, and traveling!
